Domenica 'Sandy' Pizzari

1925 - 2011

Long time member of the Syracuse Rose Society, Sandy passed away on Saturday Sept. 17th.  She is best remembered as the bright spirit who  presided over the SRS refreshment table, a post she held faithfully and tirelessly for many years.   Her creativity resulted in elaborately decorated tables changing with every season,  as only Sandy could have done it.  The refreshment table was always complemented by her costume in harmony with the evening’s theme.  Few could have done it better,  and she took great pride and appreciated all of the compliments for her seasonal celebration in flowers gracing the ever popular refreshment table.   You can see a selection of her compositions on our page “Our Hostess with the Mostess”, a link on this page.

Sandy joined the SRS one year at the NYS Fair and always attended the fair each and every day.   Everyone knew her favorite rose was Mister Lincoln.  Whether working as a rose show clerk or helping in the hospitality room at conventions, Sandy was a tireless worker for the Syracuse Rose Society.  In addition, Sandy also organized the refreshment table at the Wednesday work day at the Mills Garden in Thornden Park.

The Rose Society was really an extended family for Sandy,   and she will be sorely  missed.   Because her funeral was private, we are collecting our special memories of her in the Memory Book just below this column or send them to me at crbau@aol.com.
